About this program
The program assists separated families to find the best arrangements for maintaining the relationships between children and their parents.
It is staffed by a small group of professionals with expertise in mediation, counselling, family separation and child development.
The ARCK program is managed jointly by Marymead Child and Family Centre and Relationships Australia.
Who can use the program
Separated parents or carers who:
- are having serious difficulties negotiating workable arrangements about the children
- believe that the best arrangements for their children are not being maintained
- have ongoing concerns about their children’s wellbeing following separation
- are unable to communicate effectively with each other regarding their children’s day to day life.
- have current court orders regarding their children
- have no court orders regarding their children, but are both interested in achieving better working arrangements.
How we work
We take a “therapeutic mediation” approach using Child Inclusive Practice to better understand the needs of children and their families. We work with parents to improve communication between them, and minimise their children’s exposure to conflict.
We undertake an extensive initial assessment of the family and formulate a case plan in consultation with each parent/carer. There is no particular time frame for the Program’s work with a family; we continue to work with the family to implement the case plan. This may take regular, ongoing sessions over several months.
We also run separate groups for children and parents who are involved with the Program.
Hours and Location
The ARCK program is located on the grounds of Marymead Child and Family Centre.
Currently the program operates during business hours, Monday to Thursday.
Fees
A fee of $20 per session is charged. A lesser charge is applied for families with a Health Care card. A nominal fee applies for participation in the Program’s regular children’s groups.
Referrals and enquiries
The ARCK program accepts direct enquiries and referrals from parents and carers as well as from outside agencies, and legal practitioners. Please contact the Program on (02) 6162 5829 for more information.
