Kids And Youth Are Kool postSeparation (KAYAKS)
About This Program
Kids And Youth Are Kool postSeparation (KAYAKS) is a new program helping children and young people adjust to life after divorce or separation.
How We Work / Who Can Use This Program
KAYAKS services complement the services for separated parents provided by ARCK, giving additional resource specifically to the children through education groups, counselling, therapeutic groups, and Child Inclusive Practice input to other agencies’ mediations.
Staff are child specialists with backgrounds in counselling many of whom have also learned Child Inclusive Practice. Research shows that children generally receive very little or no information around separation: at a time when Children and Young people are assisted to understand why parents separate, know what sorts of things they might experience when their parents separate, tell their story, normalise feelings which can often come up for them after separation, separate their individual identity from the effects of any parental conflict, and build skills and confidence for life.
