Counselling Centre

About This Program

Marymead’s Counselling Centre provides clinical assessment and intervention with families of young children under the age of 8 years.

How We Work / Who Can Use This Program

Referrals are for families where there are concerns about behavioural or emotional difficulties shown by the child or concerns about the relationship between the child and the caregiver. We also conduct expert assessments of care-giving relationships when requested by child protection authorities or for the court.

We work with families to address their concerns and also with other services who may also be involved in supporting the child and family. Our work is based on attachment theory, family systems theory and developmental psychology.

By working with families and children early in the life of the child and/or early in the life of the problem, the outcomes for children’s development can be shifted onto a more positive pathway more easily than if the problems were left till later.
