About this program
The Family Skills program aims to help women build on their parenting
strengths, share what works for them, and to learn new skills in
a supportive environment. It is part of Marymead's Family Skills
area which provides programs based on group processes and techniques
aimed at building trust and exploring new skills. This approach
is based on strong evidence that early intervention within a positive
group work environment is a beneficial and supportive way to enrich
families and enhance relationships between parents and children.
Participants in the program are supported by transport, childcare
and a meal in a friendly accepting environment.
During the year we will offer a number of groups which will cover areas such as parenting for positive behaviours in and relationships with your children, parenting as a single mum, parenting after domestic violence and self-care for mums.
Who we work with
The Family Skills program is aimed primarily at women who for
a number of reasons, find parenting more challenging than other
mothers. This includes women from linguistically and culturally
diverse backgrounds and other groups within the community with particular
needs, eg mothers who are raising their children alone, or those
with children who have a disability, or who are from families where
there is a history of domestic violence or child protection agency
involvement.
