About this program
Marymead's Respite Care program provides care for children when
parents are ill, or for a variety of reasons need a short break
from their parenting responsibilities. We assess, train and support
carers who care for children in their own homes. Children usually
spend a weekend with a volunteer family. Parents and carers meet
so that parents can tell the carers about the child's routines,
likes, dislikes, etc. Respite care is planned and is usually for
a limited number of weekends until the family is back on its feet.
Who we work with
Children range in age from infancy to 12 years.
Staff work with the carers, the child's family and any other institutions/organisations
which have an involvement in the welfare of the child.

Parents and professionals may contact us directly about the Respite
Care program.
Ways to help
You may be interested to help a child by becoming a volunteer
with Host Family, a Foster Carer or Respite Carer.
If you are interested in becoming a carer, contact the foster
care staff at Marymead.
Carers are trained and supported by Marymead staff and receive a
tax-free allowance to help them cover the expenses of caring for
a child.
You can support the work of Marymead by asking to be put on our
mailing list, which will keep you informed about our activities,
including fundraising and volunteering.
