Grandparent’s Group

Marymead’s Grandparent’s Group supports grandparents who are preparing to be or who are the primary carer for their grandchild/ren aged 0-18 years. A key objective of the Grandparent’s Group is to provide social connection, support and education to people who are facing varied and demanding challenges in their role as grandparents.

The Group enables grandparents to:

  • meet with other grandparents in a similar situation;
  • new grandparent primary carers can access orientation and support for their role
  • receive peer support from experienced grandparent volunteers
  • learn about organisations and services that can be of assistance;
  • discuss issues;
  • access advocacy advice and support
  • share a free meal and some social time with other grandparents;
  • participate in presentations by guest speakers; and
  • attend group outings and engage in social inclusion activities.

Marymead’s Grandparent’s Group meets monthly at Marymead’s Canberra site at the Rheinberger Centre, Corner of Weston and Loch Streets Yarralumla, from 12 noon until 3.00pm and lunch is provided.
